I desperately need tips for how to entertain my 17 month old in the car.
We'll be traveling to New Zealand and it will involve some driving from town to town with the longest day trip being 5 hours.
My daughter will be 18 months old but she is currently terrible in the car. Unless she is tired, a 10 minute drive can be awful as I am constantly passing toys to her or trying to keep her entertained. She gets so bored.
My current ideas are to get a portable DVD player (my daughter doesn't presently watch tv/DVDs but I'm going to try this), buying new books and wrapping them up for her to unwrap and read and getting old wallets and filling them up with old cards for her to pull out (she loves pulling out cards).
Any tips or ideas for reasonably low weight entertainment for her would be greatly appreciated. I'm feeling quite apprehensive about the car trips and also the flight! Thanks ladies :)

this entertains my toddlers for a bit, i know you can get them in Aus as mine was a gift, just did a quick google search to show you. it has tracks and you wind the toys up and they go around the tracks staying on the book, pretty cool and such a great idea! you can get trains planes bus . Stickers also keep my kids entertained. balloons, stamps, medicine syringes that you get out of the panadol box they love filling them with water and squirting it in their mouth.
