Information on past miscarriage

I suffered a miscarriage 13 years ago now, I was quite young at the time so I didn't understand a lot of what was happening, and wasn't provided a whole lot of information. It's played on my mind a lot over the years, mainly not knowing how far along I was. I remember losing (birthing) quite a large clot-probably slightly bigger than a ping pong ball- which has always made me wonder the gestation of the pregnancy, what went wrong and even the sex of the baby. After 13 years, is it possible to find out any information from the hospital where I was treated? Would they still have the records and am I able to obtain them somehow?

Sorry for your loss and grief what you have described sounds you were roughly around the 10-12wk mark, unfortunately as it was so many years ago I don't think they would have the answers available your looking for, unless at the time you requested further investigation they wouldn't of just done it as you were only early and is quite common for miscarriages to occur before the 12wk mark, I've had a miscarriage around that mark and the only comforting thing I could accept was natures taking its course as it wasn't a healthy viable pregnancy, you need to try and move on, yes it's devasting but you need to accept what's happened and know that it's not your fault and there's absolutely nothing you could of done to prevent it

Im sorry but unfortunetly you wouldnt be able to find out the sex, as requested testing would have needed to be done on the foetus, and the same with a reason for the m/c. You could ask the hospital for the records, but after 10 years they get archived and you would probably need to (depending on the hospital) write a letter requesting them and pay a fee for retrieval. I would disagree with the above comment about gestation as i had a m/c at 9-10weeks and it was roughly the size of my palm, so i would guess you were around 7-8 weeks. Theres a support group called Bears of Hope which is for parents who lost a baby through m/c, still birth, or neo natal death, it might be worth you checking out.

My hospital have all my records on file. Everything! I looked at it when I was having my first baby it had stuff from when I was a baby in 1983
Every visit was there sick toddler 1985, (I moved away from 1986-2000) appendix removal 2001, broken arm 2002, asthma attacks, and now children (go ask the records should be there - if they are easy to access the staff should be helpful.
If they have archiving offsite you just have to apply for the paperwork through the freedom of informations act

I had a recent miscarriage. I was 8 weeks 6 days when I passed the "tissue" and I had been bleeding since about 6 weeks so it had possibly stopped growing then. I had a natural miscarriage and the tissue itself was about the size of my thumb and was not a blood clot although I did pass many blood clots also. I knew I had miscarried as what I passed was clearly the foetus. I'm sorry for tmi but it might help you determine gestation. I was told by emergency they would send the tissue away for analysis and I have since asked my doctor if there were any results and if I could know the gender and they had neither on record.
